PORT KLANG (KUALA LUMPUR, KL) MAYLAYSIA (day 77)

KUALA LUMPUR has a multicultural population of 30 million people. 65% are Malay in origin they are mostly Muslim some are CHRISTIAN, 25% are Chinese they are mostly BUDDHISTS , 8%  are Indian they are mostly HINDU, & 150,000 are Aborigines that live off the land in the jungles. KUALA LUMPUR is basically a Muslim Country.

The city's old quarters remind you of its Colonial past, while the modern towers give you a sense of their financial ambitions. Although their chief export is Palm Oil they are proud of the fact that they originated TIGER BEER in 1900 and that today it is sold all over the world. 60% of the country is still under green cover, especially since they are the 2nd largest exporter of Oil of Palm in the world.

There is no minimum wage. People working at Mc Donalds can begin with $1.25/hr.. A beginning salary for a Bank Teller can be $650.00/mo.There is no such thing as unemployment insurance since, "if you want to work there is ample opportunity to get work".

90% of the country is literate. The younger people who are college graduates, "the brains of the country", and are not fond of the regime are choosing to leave KL for countries like the US, the UK, & AU. In order to try to keep them in the country KL has been offering them incentives including higher salaries.

KL comes.under the Constitutional Monarchy of MALAYSIA. Nationalistic interests are sidelined by those who have other interests.  Apparently, those who practice ISLAM are using the political system to try to advance their own agendas. The people unite when there is a common enemy, otherwise as our guide said "birds of a father flock together".

Today our tour was CULTURES OF MALAY...

1st we visited a family home. Actually it is called a HOMESTAY since the family opens the house to tourists who are then asked to participate in and enjoy the family life on the farm.
