AT SEA (day 59)
SANDAKAN (SABAH) CONTINUED
SIM SIM WATER VILLAGE
THE VILLAGE ON STILTS WITH HOUSES SITUATED ARE VERY CLOSE TO ONE AND OTHER AND TO THE DOCKS.
FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THERE IS A MIXED SOCIOECONOMIC GROUP OF PEOPLE LIVE IN THESE COTTAGES. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THESE COTTAGES IN VARIOUS STAGES OF UPKEEP IN THIS SMALL COMMUNITY.
I WOULD GUESS THAT THE LAUNDRY IS ALL DONE BY HAND. SINNCE, AS FAR AS THE EYE COULD SEE THE HOUSES WERE LINED WITH LINES OF CLOTHING.
ON THE EAST COAST THE GROUP RELATED TO THE BAJOU ARE MOSTLY FISHERMAN
The thing that I found most beautiful about SABAH was the graciousness of the people as well as their focus on ECOTOURISM. The city itself is a work in progress...
