SHARM EL SHEIKH, EGYPT (day 107)
The port of SHARM EL SHEIKH near the southernmost tip of the SINAI Peninsula, where the Straits of Tran meet the GULF OF AQUA BA. Throughout history many battles were fought for the SINAI because of it's strategic position. The last battle for the SINAI was fight between EGYPT & ISRAEL from 1967 to 1979, ending with peace treaty. Since the ISRAELI withdrawal from the SINAI, more & more EGYPTIANS have been setting in the SINAI, taking advantage of the once booming tourist trade. Today with the recent terrorist incidents, tourism has all but come to a halt. One of our shipmates was telling me that she took the ship's shuttle bus into town this AM and the once a bustling the town of NA'AMA BAY was totally deserted. She went on to say that when the bus returned to the ship 1/2 hour later she was on it, that she never got off the bus.
Under this act birds, trees, coral reefs, corals, Fossil Reefs, Mangroves, Fish like Lion Fish & Animals like Red Fox etc...are protected.
