Day 105 continued...VALLEY OF THE KINGS

THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS is a change from the PYRAMIDS, the PHARAOHS were aware of the thefts in the graves in the  PYRAMIDS and they wanted to be buried somewhere where they could enjoy the afterlife.

THE VALLEY OF KINGS, has secret drop chambers for the king's mummy & their belongings. As well as all of the walls lined with colorful hieroglyphs to guide them to the afterlife, THE BOOK OF THE DEAD, and tell about the life that they lived. The tombs were meant to be nondescript, secret deep chambers, hidden away from robbers. What was important was the the PHARAOH picked a place for his tomb where the mountain peaked, came to a point, pointing to eternity, very much like the PYRAMIDS.

It is truly an inhospitable valley of death. The blazing sun and the heat is almost unbearable.

We visited the tombs of RAMSES 1V, RAMSES V11, HOREMEHEB, AND TUTANHAMUN.
Unfortunately we were not allowed to take pictures. Nevertheless, it is truly a sight that I will never forget. The tomb of TUT was found relatively recently, quite by accident, and it still contained his mummy. TUT was only 19 when he died or was murdered, but that is another story.
